How to Get Wood Fast

Wood is the only real currency in Survive 7 Days In Desert. This page covers the cutting side: how palms are felled, what a log weighs, and which upgrades change your timber income.

Cut palm trunks from the bottom so each log drops whole, and load them straight into the Wood Cart instead of your hands. The two store items that change your timber income are the Sharp Machete (3x damage to trees) and the Bigger Cart (400 kg to 800 kg). The game publishes no chop timer, so any “kg per minute” figure you see elsewhere is invented.

Where the wood comes from

The official game description lists the first verb of the loop as “🌴 Chop palm trees.” Palms grow around the spawn and along the river, so the realistic choice is not which tree but how you cut it and where the logs go. In the recording below, the player cuts the trunk low to the ground so the tree falls as a small number of heavy logs rather than a scattering of scraps.

The two store items that change your timber income

The store sells four passes. Only two touch wood, and they touch different halves of the problem.

Sharp Machete

99 R$

Official store text: “Deal 3x more damage to trees!” This is the cutting side — less time per tree, so fewer heat ticks spent standing in the open.

★ Cutting speed

Bigger Cart

99 R$

Official store text: “Your cart can now hold 2x more!” The cart holds about 400 kg (800 kg with pass) — one full load already covers the 240 kg hut with wood left over.

★ Carry capacity

Bigger Jug (water capacity) and Extra Revive (a free revive) do not change wood. Full price and ROI notes are on the gamepasses page.

What the wood gets spent on

Wood has no other use than building. That makes the sink order the whole economy: everything below is paid for with the same timber, and the first two lines are the ones a run cannot skip.

BuildWood costWhy it is worth the timber
Small CanopyEmergency sticks / early woodStops the heat climb the moment the warning appears. Build it before hauling.
Hut (Shelter)240 kg woodThe Day 1 gate: the official badge text is “Built a hut and lived through the night.”
Water Barrel80 kg woodStationary purified-water stock, so river trips stop driving your day.
Wood CartUpgrade pass, not timberDoubles the haul ceiling from ~400 kg to 800 kg.

Build order, placement and the shelter-versus-night answer live on the camp construction page; the Day 1 sequence is on the first-day route.

Why the logs go in the cart, not in your hands

You drop everything in your personal inventory on death. A cart load is worth roughly the hut plus a barrel, so losing one to a heat stroke is the most expensive mistake in the loop.

Hands: at risk

Anything carried in personal inventory drops at your corpse when you die, which is usually far from camp and often inside a sandstorm.

Cart: survives

Logs loaded into the cart stay inside the cart entity. Park it against the hut wall in public servers so another survivor cannot drag your stockpile away.

Practical pattern used in the recordings: cut close to camp first, park the cart beside the canopy, and only take the long haul once shade and clean water are already handled.

What this page does not claim

  • No logs-per-tree count. Nothing in the game or in the recordings states how much timber one palm yields.
  • No kg-per-minute or chop-time figure. The game ships no timer, so any such number is guesswork.
  • No “best tree” ranking. Weight differences in the recordings look like log size, not species.
  • The 62-125 kg band is one creator's HUD readings on 2026-09-21, not an official constant, and the Machete changes damage to trees rather than log weight.

How do I get wood faster in Survive 7 Days In Desert?

Two levers, and only two. Cut palms from the bottom of the trunk so the log comes off whole instead of splintering into pieces you have to chase, and use the Sharp Machete pass, whose official store text is "Deal 3x more damage to trees!" Everything else changes how much you can carry, not how fast you cut.

How much wood is one palm log?

In the 2026-09-21 gameplay recording below, the HUD reads 62 kg, 75 kg, 117 kg and 125 kg for individual logs, and a single loaded cart load reads as roughly 400 kg. Those are one creator's on-screen readings, not published constants, so treat 60-125 kg as an observed band rather than a fixed number.

Should I carry logs by hand or use the cart?

Use the cart. The death penalty empties your personal inventory onto the sand where you fall, so a heat-stroke death on a long haul costs you the whole trip. Logs loaded into the cart stay in the cart container, which is why the cart is the only safe place for a working timber stockpile.

Next: put the first cart load into the 240 kg hut before nightfall.
